Jessica and Dan started their wedding day off getting ready separately – and Dan and his groomsmen went over the to the baseball fields across from the church to get in a little round to celebrate the vintage baseball team he plays on with his friends.  After their lovely church wedding we headed to Colt State Park to let the bridal party relax and get some great portraits of them as newlyweds!  That shot of Jess playing with her veil on the rocks has got to be a favorite! We also found some great shady nooks (it was a SUPER sunny day) near the end of the park and that cool old wooden fence made for a great backdrop with the green ivy.  Back at the waterfront we met up with the Bridal party for some fun shots on the docks, and then walked over to Linden Place for family photos. The great thing about Bristol weddings is there is just so much for your guests to do! Jess and Dan had this nice little gap between the ceremony and the reception (like lots of church weddings end up requiring) so they used it to let their guests explore bristol’s cute pubs, take a stroll along the water, and freshen up before cocktail hour started. Such a great party, the dance floor was packed the whole time and I have this great memory of each Jessica and Dan getting super excited when their favorite songs came on and just totally rocked out. Oh and that Vintage car wasn’t too shabby to take around the park either, they were even able to do a sort of “grand entrance ” into cocktail hour waiving from the back of the car, it was pretty cool I thought!

It was a very warm early fall evening and we had the most beautiful sunset light! Paige, Dave and I along with their dog Molly walked from their apartment through and around the park and the fort. I had so much fun getting to know them and their wedding at The Red Lion Inn was so much fun! Can’t wait to share more!

I absolutely can’t wait for their wedding at the Newport Yachting Center this summer! The yachting center is being redone and I can’t wait to see their new sail cloth tent being created by Sperry. It’s sure to add more to the nautical ambiance already present there, for a more seamless, elegant look and I’m so excited to capture it for Nicole and Kevin’s wedding day!

Andrew’s family helped us so we could take photos on the boat while the boat was moving, giving us some awesome perspectives from both the boat and the shore! It didn’t hurt we had the most fabulous weather! A glorious overcast day (my favorite for shooting!) gave way to the most spectacular sunset!  It must have changed 100 different colors before it finally set behind the Newport Bridge.  We passed the Goat Island lighthouse, and got cheers from guests partying at Pineapples, I think they thought Katie and Andrew were famous (we heard mumblings of Taylor Swift and Robert Pattinson! ), and pulled back into Elm Street Pier right as the sun set, and I photographed them pulling away!  I couldn’t have asked for a more perfect idea for an engagement shoot – I always say to pick an activity that means something to you, something you love doing together, something that plays a part in your relationship, this is EXACTLY what I mean!  Sometimes engagement sessions feel weird if we are just walking around a park (which, believe me, is why we do them, to get out all those weird, awkward feelings), but if you are concentrating on doing something, whether that’s sailing, or surfing, or paddle boarding, or hiking, or biking, or drinking coffee, or opening champagne, or rollerskating or whatever! If you are doing something other than worrying about what I’m doing, you are going to relax. And relaxing does is make for great, candid, comfortable looking image that you will look at and say “hey, that looks like us”!  It’s my job to get the shot, it’s your job just to think about each other and this special time in your life and what you are doing for dinner later and how excited you are to get married!  Let’s do something fun to help you get these type of relaxed, candid captures!
