Oh my, has this post been a long time coming. This boho casual outdoor Fort Getty wedding in Jamestown RI is my idea of summer perfection. Micaela and Ian’s engagement session goes down as one of my all time faves, and I just loved their easy sweet way with each other. I also extra love their dog Clementine who you can see was also a guest at the wedding. And I extra extra loved that they are BFF with my past couple Meg and Curtis whose Glen Manor wedding goes down as the coolest display of socks at a wedding of all time. Onto their special day!
Fort Getty Pavillion wedding in Jamestown RI
If you are looking for a venue that is 1) right on the water, 2) not pricey as hell, and 3) perfectly set up without needing a tent back up and 4) comes complete with perfect picnic tables, this venue is for you. I can’t think of any other venue that I’ve seen in my 10 years shooting that can check all the boxes that Fort Getty can. The ceremony takes place on a cliff overlooking the ocean, there is a gorgeous apple tree just beckoning formal photos, and you have your own private beach! Micaela and Ian got married on a very very hot day, so you can imagine how quite a few friends took a little dip during dancing. This little gem is easy to access too, in the summertime you don’t need to battle Newport traffic!
Laid Back and Personalized Wedding Day
Ok, so Micaela and Ian are both in the sciences. They love all things RI and all things outdoors. So let me share a bit about how they personalized their experience. First of all, they got married in one of their favorite places. Jamestown. They each got ready near the fort which was awesome. The home Michaela used to get ready had so much gorgeous natural light! My second shooter Meghan Sepe headed over to the guys to start and was able to capture some really fun shots of the guys in their natural habitat, aka Skateboarding. Turns out Meghan and Ian knew each other from surfing in Newport, so it was kismet that she was able to assist me this day. The guys felt totally relaxed with her.
Micaela and Ian used little beakers and flasks and test tubes to hold flowers as a nod to their scientific backgrounds. They handed out seeds to plant as favors and served local favorite allie’s donuts for dessert alongside their pretty cake from Isis cakes. They served delicious smoked fish on giant trays and bbq deliciousness from Smoke and Pickles. Their casual and carefree personalities let guests be relaxed and happy throughout the night, from dancing to local band Felix Brown to setting off a sunset cannon and playing cornhole under the pink sky. I loved being a part of their special day!
