An elegant black tie wedding at Castle Hill in Newport, Rhode Island
I get asked a ton from prospective clients about what do we do if we have a rainy wedding at Castle Hill? Christina and Alex had answered this question with style. Though it was raining so hard with such intense wind and cold we couldn’t utilize umbrellas, we did our best to still highlight the beauty of the venue and their day while using all the little nooks and spaces we could find. We started with their first look on the wrap around deck of the chalet. While it’s a small space, it is perfect for just 2 people. This allows us to still utilize natural light while allowing the floral and venue team to continue setting up the ballroom. A rainy wedding at Castle Hill can still be so beautiful!
Christina and Alex also had the amazing Greenlion Design team set up their arbor inside their ceremony tent. While they had hoped to use the natural arbor on site at Castle Hill, they made a backup plan when they saw the forecast to use one that Kim and Chris brought onsite to make the space beautiful. We were able to utilize this for a backdrop for our formal bridal party photos since the tent was still being set up for dinner. This is SOOO smart! Having a backup space that is beautiful for formal pictures is a great plan B! We also utilized the overhand of the chalet, the fireplace inside, and the tent itself for more images. This gave us a well-rounded selection of backdrops and made the couple feel at ease.
Late fall weddings in Newport
This wedding was at the end of October. It is SO hard to predict the weather in Newport in late fall. It can be downright HOT and sunshine and sailboats, or it can be freezing cold, rainy and windy. Having an A list team of vendors that can roll with the punches, a plan B and backup budget for making a gorgeous space inside (that still allow for natural light), and an all-around great attitude makes the rain so much easier to handle. We all want sun (and yes clouds and overcast are AWESOME sauce) but in New England, it’s just not the case even half the time. Umbrellas and wellies really help with getting that plan B in place, but sometimes it’s just so windy we can’t do it, so indoors is our option.
