Sailing in Newport, RI with Katie and Andrew was so much fun! Andrew’s family helped us so we could take photos on the boat while the boat was moving, giving us some awesome perspectives from both the boat and the shore! It didn’t hurt we had the most fabulous weather! A glorious overcast day (my favorite for shooting!) gave way to the most spectacular sunset! It must have changed 100 different colors before it finally set behind the Newport Bridge. We passed the Goat Island lighthouse, and got cheers from guests partying at Pineapples, I think they thought Katie and Andrew were famous (we heard mumblings of Taylor Swift and Robert Pattinson! ), and pulled back into Elm Street Pier right as the sun set, and I photographed them pulling away! I couldn’t have asked for a more perfect idea for an engagement shoot – I always say to pick an activity that means something to you, something you love doing together, something that plays a part in your relationship, this is EXACTLY what I mean! Sometimes engagement sessions feel weird if we are just walking around a park (which, believe me, is why we do them, to get out all those weird, awkward feelings), but if you are concentrating on doing something, whether that’s sailing, or surfing, or paddle boarding, or hiking, or biking, or drinking coffee, or opening champagne, or rollerskating or whatever! If you are doing something other than worrying about what I’m doing, you are going to relax. And relaxing does is make for great, candid, comfortable looking image that you will look at and say “hey, that looks like us”! It’s my job to get the shot, it’s your job just to think about each other and this special time in your life and what you are doing for dinner later and how excited you are to get married! Let’s do something fun to help you get these type of relaxed, candid captures!
